Table 2 Inclusion / exclusion criteria for CPPs and HCPs

Inclusion

• 18 years of age or older

• Sufficient knowledge of German to contribute to the focus group interviews

• Confirmed medical and / or nursing diagnosis “Chronic pain” (pain for > = 6 months with an intensity of the last pain episode of > = 5 on the 11-point Numeric Rating Scale [NRS; 0 = no pain, 10 = worst imaginable pain])*.

• 18 years of age or older

• Trained physician, clinical psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist or qualified nurse, working in the participating health centre

• Work experience with CPP > 1 year

Exclusion

• Diagnosis of a life-threatening disease (e.g. cancer), which would likely lead to the introduction of topics concerning the end of life.

• Cognitive impairment that would lead to diminished participation in the focus group interviews.
